The Iowa Central Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society held its induction ceremony on Tuesday evening, April 16 in the Bioscience and Health Sciences Building Auditorium on the Iowa Central campus.
A total of 63 new members were inducted into Iowa Central’s Lambda Kappa Chapter.
During Tuesday evening’s induction, students and their guests were welcomed with an opening address by Iowa Central President, Dr. Jesse Ulrich.
Samantha McClain, Iowa Central PTK advisor, presented the history and mission of Phi Theta Kappa and presented the inductees for membership and Ulrich presented each new member with a gold PTK stole.
To be eligible for PTK, students must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours of college level course work and have a GPA of 3.50 or higher. There are four cornerstones of PTK: Service, Fellowship, Scholarship, and Leadership.
“At Iowa Central, our chapter, Lambda Kappa, focuses primarily on service,” said McClain. “Several times throughout the year we will do service projects. Some of our past service projects have been Share What You Wear, Rent a Member, making fleece blankets for hospice, sending care packages to our deployed troops and assisting with the Heart Connection children’s oncology camp and campus blood drives.”
As members of PTK, students have the opportunity to participate in leadership conferences, seminars, and webinars throughout the state of Iowa. They may also attend the international convention and are eligible for transfer scholarships to four-year schools.
