SMOOT SIGNS WITH IOWA CENTRAL
Park senior baseball standout Will Smoot has committed to attend Iowa Central Community College. Smoot, a catcher and infielder, was a key player in Park’s 22-8 season last spring which culminated with a section championship and an appearance in the Class 4A state championship game.
Smoot will join Wolfpack teammates Josh Hatano and Jackson Tessman at Iowa Central.
GIRLS HOCKEY WINS 5-0 It was win big and go home for the Park girls’ hockey team Saturday as the Wolfpack skated to a 5-0 win over Rochester Century at the Rochester Graham Arena Complex.
Maggie Jensen powered in a pair of goals to lead the Wolfpack. Taylar Nadler, Natalie Post and Lauren Osland scored Park’s other goals.
Molly Villas had three assists. Goalie Tori Stepka stopped all 10 of the shots directed at her.
Park improved to 2-3 on the season. Park lost 3-1 to host Woodbury in girls’ hockey Tuesday at the Health East Sports Center.
Park scored the first goal and led 1-0 after one period but the Royals pushed across three goals in the next two periods to earn the victory.
Jensen scored for Park with assists by Villas and Shelby Hansen. Stepka faced 29 shots in the net, turning away 26.
BOYS HOCKEY SKATES PAST SIMLEY Park skated to 2-0 on the season with a 5-3 win over host Simley Saturday evening at Vet’s Arena in Inver Grove Heights.
Park led throughout, going up 1-0 after the first period and 4-0 after the second.
Brady Strand, Nathan Donlon, Colton Porter, Samuel Janski and Michael Schult each scored for the Wolfpack. Jackson Rudh had two assists. Janski, Brenden Bloedel, Schult, Strand, Vincent Lucio, Mac Wohnoutka and Nathan Donlon added an assist each. Alex Harden got the win in goal, stopping 22 of 25 shots.
Park opened the season with a 7-3 victory over Dodge County Friday at Vet’s Arena in Inver Grove Heights.
The Wolfpack now have three straight road games: at Hastings Tuesday, at Stillwater Thursday and at Woodbury Saturday.
