Stanley-Boyd travels to Medford, Eau Claire
Traveling to Medford Thursday for a dual followed by a Saturday Invite to Eau Claire North, the Oriole boys wrestling team gained experience for the future, with a dual score at Medford of 11 versus 66 and mixed results at Eau Claire North. Following the two events Coach Greg Burzynski shared some thoughts on what went well and where the team was headed as the future beckons.
“Breckin and Landen wrestled well,” Burzynski said of Medford. “Breckin was dominate and teched his kid. Landen was in a close match but kept battling and ended up getting the pin.” As to Medford itself, Burzynski shared that, “Medford was a solid team with a full roster.”
For Eau Claire, Burzynski shared that, “we had some kids not make it due to the storm.” At the same time, Coach Burzynski said that, “Justin (McMa- nus) had a good quarterfinal match and placed 4th,” along with a fourth-place finish by Breckin after losing a match in the semis by one point, then losing a final tiebreaker match, "by criteria." As to where the team could be headed going forward, Burzynski shared his sense that the team overall practiced “very hard.” A young team with many years ahead, the hope remains alive, in spite of recent results.
“We have an interesting mix this season with kids that have a lot of mat experience and some that just started wrestling this season.,” Burzynski said. “It is a very young team. They ask good questions and are willing to learn. If they continue to do that, they will definitely continue to improve."
