Park wins boys hockey consolation title

Park skated to the consolation championship Wednesday, Dec. 29, in the Herb Brooks Holiday Classic with a dramatic 3-2 overtime win over Southwest Christian/Richfield at the National Sports Center.

Senior forward Brady Strand scored the winning goal for the Wolfpack at the 4:30 mark of the overtime period. Jackson Rudh earned the assist on the game-winner.

Park finished fifth overall in the prestigious tournament. Rudh scored Park’s first goal in the opening period. Park then took a 2-0 lead just 29 seconds into the second period on a tally by Vincent Lucio. But that was Park’s last goal until the overtime as Southwest Christian/Richfield battled back to tie the game in the third period.

Rudh also had two assists in the game, giving him a team-leading 19 in nine games this season. Strand and Samuel Janski had one apiece.

Park junior goalie Alex Harden knocked away 27 of the 29 shots he faced to earn the net win.

Park glided to a 5-2 win over Northfield in the boys’ hockey consolation semifinal of the Herb Brooks Holiday Classic Tuesday at the National Sports Center.

Park jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period behind goals from Strand, Vincent Lucio and Michael Schult.

Brenden Bloedel and Mac Wohnoutka added scores for the Wolfpack in the second period as Park took a 5-1 lead.

Rudh had three assists and Nathan Donlon two to lead Park. Camden Forys, Janski. Strand, Wohnoutka and Tyler Schwartz also had an assist.

Jonah Frost got the win in goal, stopping 27 of 29 shots. Park outshot Northfield 43-29. Play Southwest Christian/Richfield in the consolation finals Wednesday, Dec. 29.

Park (5-4, 0-2) returns to Suburban East Conference play Saturday, Jan. 8 in a game against Irondale (1-7, 0-2) at the National Sports Center.

Girls’ hockey falls in tournament

Park lost its fourth straight contest in girls’ hockey Wednesday, falling to Apple Valley 2-0 at the Burnsville Ice Center.

The Wolfpack dropped all three games in the Burnsville Tournament, falling to Burnsville 6-2, to Hastings 3-1 and then to Apple Valley.

Apple Valley outshot Park 34-13 in the contest. Aubree Laska got the start in goal and stopped 32 of 34 shots.

Park dropped a 3-1 decision to Hastings Tuesday at Burnsville.

Jose Leonard scored Park’s only goal, in the second period with an assist by Sam Miller.

The Wolfpack (5-8, 2-3) host Suburban East Conference leader Roseville (9-5-1, 6-0-1) Tuesday, Jan. 4, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Park swims to wins over Woodbury, Tartan

Park High’s swimmers easily outdistanced Tartan and Woodbury Tuesday, Dec. 28, in a three-team meet at Tartan. Park defeated Woodbury 74-28 and swamped Tartan 76-26.

Senior Matt Glenna had the unusual honors of winning both the 50-yard freestyle sprint in 22.63 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:03.37.

Park’s 200-yard medley relay team of Ethan Anderson, Mason Darling, Mitchell LeMay and Matt Glenna got the meet started with a victory in a time of 1:49.30. The Wolfpack team of Darling, Nathan Johnson, Carter Sommerness and LeMay also won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:40.21.

LeMay finished first in the 100-yard butterfly in 54.50 and Anderson was second in 1:01.79.

Darling outswam the competition in the 100-yard freestyle, winning in 54.0. Jackson Harre was second in 56.92.

Nathan Johnson swam to wins in the both the 200-yard IM in 2:17.62 and in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.83. Marling was second in the breaststroke in 1:09.75.

Parker Jeseritz captured a victory in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.31.

LeMay (1:58.12) and Sommerness (2:05.53) went 2-3 in the 200-yard freestyle. John Jaso was third in diving with a score of 133.75.

Park finished the meet with a triumph in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3L38.91 with the foursome of Anderson, Sommerness, Johnson and Glenna.

The Wolfpack hosts East Ride Tuesday, Jan. 4 at Cottage Grove Middle School starting at 6 p.m. Silvis wins, three other Park wrestlers place at Rogers

Park senior Zach Silvis won the 120-pound championship to lead the Park Wolfpack in the mega Rogers Holiday Madness tournament Dec. 29 and 30.

Silvis (19-1) won the 120-pound title with a 2-2 tie-breaker decision over Mason Mills of St. Michael-Albertville.

Eighth grader Zack Carr (13-5) of Park finished fourth at 106 pounds. Gunnar Mullen (16-6) of Park was fifth at 132 pounds. Alex Carr (11-9) of the Wolfpack finished sixth at 195 pounds.

Park finished 12th among 30 teams in the Rogers tournament Wednesday and Thursday. Stg.-Michael-Albertville won the meet with 241 points, followed by Becker (187), Anoka (177) and Apple Valley (154.5). Park scored 80 team points.
