Paddy’s Pub and Boxty House opens in RF

Irish comfort food offered in former Mainstreeter’s location

RIVER FALLS – The popular Hudson restaurant Paddy’s Pub and Boxty House has opened a second location in downtown River Falls. The new restaurant is taking the place of what was formerly Mainstreeters Bar and Grill, located at 212 S. Main St. Paddy’s officially opened on Dec 15.

Hudson’s Paddy’s is located right off of Exit 4 at 709 Rodeo Drive, No. 100, and the restaurant has been very successful. Once this opportunity presented itself, owners Kirk and Jacki Mueller jumped right on it.

“The opportunity came to us and my wife and I have lived in River Falls now for six or seven years, and this is where we want to raise our family and we love it here, and so being able to be a part of this community as a business was too good of an opportunity to pass up,” he said.

After opening, Mueller has been settling in and getting the restaurant running smoothly.

“We are currently transitioning this space to eventually become another Paddy’s like the location in Hudson, it will eventually be essentially the same,” he said.

Currently Paddy’s is offering a hybrid menu that has items from both Mainstreeter’s and Paddy’s menus.

“We didn’t want to have to close the location at all, so right now we are offering a hybrid menu and so we have about 10-12

popular Mainstreeter menu items on one side of the menu and then we have the Paddy’s menu on the other side,” he said.

Although there has not been any official grand opening, the owners are hoping in the near future to host such an event.

“In a perfect world we would love to have a grand opening and maybe right around St. Patrick’s Day we will have something,” Mueller said. “We are just currently doing some inside work to really make the restaurant look authentic.”

The menu features unique and authentic Irish foods. “Mostly all of our stuff is made fresh from scratch, so that gives us another unique opportunity,” Mueller said. “There are some items on our menu that unless you have been to our Hudson location, you might not have ever had before.”

The unique menu has many options to choose from, and the most popular is their boxty. The lamb boxty is one of Mueller’s favorites. He explained that several hours of preparation and cook time goes into their boxty recipes.

“My favorite item on our menu has to be our lamb boxty, all of the boxtys are our specialty. What it is, it’s like a potato pancake made with mashed potatoes and hashbrowns and heavy cream and butter and the lamb is actually our Irish stew that is made by my father-in-law. He takes three hours to make a batch and it is the definition of comfort food,” said Mueller.

Other unique items on the menu include Beef and Guinness Pie, Jameson Medallions, and Fish and Chips.

Mueller is excited to be at the heart of the River Falls community with this new addition.

“The fact that we are right in the middle of downtown on Main Street is exciting, the amount of people who pass by our window every day just gives us an opportunity to serve so many people and the fact that we can be one of one here in River Falls in that there isn’t another Irish restaurant here,” Mueller said.

Hours for the River Falls location are currently 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. To learn more, visit www.paddyspubbh.com
