Park girls lacrosse team wins fourth straight

Park ninth grader Rainna Jameson tied the school record in the high jump to highlight a big day for the Park girls track and field team in the Tartan Triangular Friday.

Jameson’s winning high jump of 5-4 ties the school record set by Rachel Miller in 1998.

“Rainna Jameson continues to impress,” said Park girls head coach brad Narveson. “Not only did she set a personal record by over a foot in the long jump (16-4), she then went on to tie the school record in the high jump with a jump of 5-4. Just an incredible start to her career. She works hard and she wants to be great. She’s definitely fun to coach.”

Jameson was also second in the triple jump (32-04.5) Park’s girls won the meet with 65.5 points. Tartan was second with 61.5 and Cretin-Derham Hall third with 28. The Park boys did not compete in the meet.

“Tori Stepka won the 800 (2:28.17) in a very gutty performance,” Narveson said. “It was only her third 800 ever and if you ask her, she went out too fast (I would agree). But when the girl from Cretin came up on her shoulder with 100 meters to go Tori found something inside to hold her off for the victory. I’ve seen a lot of runners unable to react and when that happens, but Tori wanted to win and found that extra little something down deep to win that race.

“Our 4×100 and 4×200 relays have been running well and they both had season bests on Friday,” said Narveson. “The competition will only get tougher as the season progresses, but I think they’re up for the challenge and I think they will continue to get faster.”

Anna Larsen had a season best by five feet in the discus with a throw of 86-01 to win that event.

Park went 1-2-3 in the shot put with Zoey Bammert- Mueller (31-05), Larsen (29-09), and Ellie Turvold (26-03.5).

Emma Taschner was first (13.69) and Susan Mbu second (14.09) in the 100-meter dash.
