Jameson clears the bar for a Park High record

The question remaining for Park sensational freshman Rainna Jameson is how high can she go.

After tying the school record of 5-4 in the high jump earlier in the season, Jameson raised the bar – quite literally – with a 5-6 jump Thursday in a threeteam meet against Woodbury and Cretin-Derham Hall.

“I think she can get 5-7, 5-8,” said Park high jump coach Mike Weah. “She’s a pure athlete. It’s like anything you put her in she’ll figure it out within a couple of minutes, and she’ll do really good at it.

“She comes in and works hard every day,’ Weah continued. “She’s really competitive. She wants to do really good at all of her events. She’s just one of those kids when she puts her mind to it she can do anything. She’s just a freshman.”

For her part, Jameson is unsure just how high she can go this season.

“I have no clue,” Jameson said. “I was really surprised that I made 5-5 and then 5-6. I did it pretty easy, so I was really surprised.”

A goal would be 5-8. She also has her mind set on setting personal records in the long and triple jumps as well.

Woodbury won the boys meet with 80.5 points, followed by Park with 59 and Cretin-Derham Hall with 30.5.

On the girls’ side, the Royals finished first in the team race with 72 points, Park was second with 56 and Cretin third with 36.

Parker Hahn won the boys 1,600-meter run in 4:56.35. Jacob Paulsen was third in the same race at 5:07.79 and Brandon Carver fourth in 5:08.25. Park’s 4×400 meter relay team was first in a time of 3:49.46.

Brady Perryman of the Wolfpack finished first in the long jump (20-03.00) with Skyler Morgan taking third (17-06). OT Omot won the high jump with a leap of 6-2.

Dominic Johannsen was second (2:22.86) and Tyler Krogman third (2:27.54) in the boys 800. Treyton Bammert- Mueller was third in the shot put (41-06). Jacob Karp was second in the discus with a throw of 123-02 and Bammert-Muller third at 118-10. Samuel Lankow was third in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet even.

Park won the girls 4×200 in 1:51.95. Tori Stepka finished first in the 400-meter run in 1:04.47. Kylie Dah, won the pole vault, clearing 8-6. Susan Mbu was third at 7-0.

“It was a great tune-up for the conference and section meets,” said Park head girls coach Brad Narveson. “The kids competed hard. The highlight was Rainna Jameson setting the school record in the high jump. The girls 4×200 relay ran well. If they can clean up their handoffs just a little bit I think they have a big PR in them in the next 2 weeks.”

Park’s trio of Zoey Bammert- Mueller (31-08.5), Anna-Marie Larsen (27-06.5) and Gabrielle Turvold (26-04) finished 1-2-3 in the shot put. Park’s throwers also swept the discus with Karis Waindim first (81-00), Bammert-Mueller second (76-01) and Larsen (75-11) third.

Elizabeth Ayala was third in the 100-meter hurdles (19.40). Susan Mbu finished fourth in the 100-meters (13.92), Hailey Kieffer and Ayala tied for third in the 300-meter hurdles (57.85). Lydia Best was third in the 800 (2:50.28). Naod Tewelde was third in the 110-meter hurdles (21.23). Alliya Tannahill was third in the high jump at 4-8.

Park hosts the Suburban East Conference track and field finals Thursday, starting at 3:30 p.m.
