Park freshman Rainna Jameson and junior OT Omot continued their skyhigh jumping Wednesday and Friday in the Section 3AAA meet at Two Rivers High School, both qualifying for the state meet.

Jameson won the girls high jump at 5-2, while Omot led a 1-2-3 Park finish in the boys’ high jump.

Both Jameson and Omot -along with Park sophomore Evan Brummond who finished second in the high jump – qualified for the Minnesota state high school Class AAA track and field tournament, held again this season at St. Michael-Albertville High School on Thursday, June 9 through Saturday, June 11.

Omot qualified in two events as he also finished second in the triple jump (43-02.5).

Omot (6-0), Brummond (6-0) and Andrew Drager (5-10) swept the top three places in the high jump. Omot had a fewer miss at 5-10 than Brummond to earn the section crown.

“It’s really big to have that at the section final,” said Omot. Now it’s on to state.

“It’s really good,” said Omot. “As a first-year guy I’m definitely going to come back next year, and it was a great experience to have. I went to state in the triple jump as well, got second, and hopefully I can place well (at state).”

The Class AAA girls high jump and boys triple jump will be held Thursday starting at 9 a.m. The boys high jump will start at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Rosemount won the Section 3AAA boys team race with 279. 5 points, followed by: Hastings, 104; East Ridge, 103.5; Eagan, 103; Apple Valley, 94; Park. 75; Burnsville, 73.5 and Eastview, 58.5. The Irish also finished first in the girls’ team race with 262 points, followed by: Eagan, 221; Eastview, 127; East Ridge, 110; Hastings. 54; Park, 49; Burnsville, 42 and Apple Valley, 38.

Friday’s results — Girls

Jameson cleared the bar at 5-2 to win the girls Section 3AAA high jump.

“I’m really excited,” said Jameson. “I was trying to be a little light and not put a lot of energy into it, but I think I could have jumped a little better.

The competition in the girls’ high jump was keen as six jumpers cleared 5-feet and three cleared 5-1. Jameson was the only jumper to make it over 5-2.

Jameson’s goals for the state meet are clear cut and lofty, especially considering she never high jumped prior to the beginning of the season.

“Definitely to jump 5-6 again and try to make 5-8,” she said.
