Park’s Carr, Salmonson, Berrey, Omot among state leaders Park senior linebacker Alex Carr and junior defensive back Brett Salmonson finished their seasons among the state high school leaders in tackles this season.

Carr is credited with a Minnesota state best 123 stops, while Salmonson ranks fifth overall with 112 stops.

Carr also broke the school single season tackling record, said Park head coach Rick Fryklund. Carr finished his Park senior season with 13 total tackles against Woodbury, 16 against Anoka, 17 against Prior Lake and 15 against Centennial.

Wolfpack senior quarterback Sam Berrey clocks in at No. 7 in the state in passing yards with 1,902 on the season. Given that Berrey missed the first two games with an injury, his totals would obviously be greater if he had been able to play in those games.

Senior wide out OT Omot ranks 13th in Minnesota in yards gained by a receiver with 746.

Carr and Omot have both been nominated for post-season awards.

Thunderbolts just miss home win The South Washington County Thunderbolts came ever so close to a victory in their last regular season game, falling to visiting South Suburban 4-3 Wednesday at East Ridge.

The Thunderbolts have generally played good defense but haven’t had much luck all season to put the ball in the goal, said Thunderbolts head coach Jeff Figlmiller.

“That’s really been our struggle most of the year is just trying to get to the ball and … some good passes tonight, some pretty good shots,” said Figlmiller. “Defense was pretty strong. We played a good team. They had some good hustle, too, and we just came up a little short tonight. Our defense has been pretty strong this year and our offense is just something we need to work on. I know that was a little bit of a challenge for us last year as well.

“But it’s going good,” Figlmiller continued. “The kids seem to be having fun tonight and everybody got to play. We got to have staff appreciation, so the teachers cane in in support of the kids. Each of the kids got to choose a teacher and then they got to talk about their teacher in front of everybody so that was fun. And then at halftime of course we had senior night. And then they had their parents to thank for the years they’ve been playing. And then to play a game on top, so they had a lot of stuff tonight, I’m proud of them. They did a good job,” Next up for the Thunderbolts is section play.
