Oasis Chiropractic celebrates 20 years serving Cottage Grove

20 years serving one community is a huge deal for any business, but even more so when the business is that of chiropractic care along with health and wellness. This kind of service based business has a mix of decades old, tried and true approach with the ever evolving knowledge and technology of today. That mix has served Oasis Chiropractic and wellness center and their patients well for 20 years.

Oasis Chiropractic was started by Dr. Eric Hahn and Dr. Alex Sheppard in 2003 and has developed in to a comprehensive wellness center that offers nutrition coaching, nutrition response testing, weight loss assistance, body contouring services and now, health coaching services.

“Dr. Hahn and I opened Oasis chiropractic 20 years ago, and we came up with the name ‘Oasis’ because if you would ever be stuck in a desert, you would be looking for help. You’d be looking for an oasis. So, we thought the same thing would apply to your health if you have a health problem and you’re looking for health then Oasis is the place to try,” explained Dr. Sheppard. “We started initially with chiropractic adjustment as the main service. The we expanded that and now have wellness services that include weight loss, nutrition response testing, and we have the health coaching. We have DOT medical exams; we have a lot of wellness services.”

Their journey to Cottage Grove started because other area office space had fallen through.

“This one was available, and we were really excited to get rolling. So, we went for it,” laughed Dr. Sheppard.

Dr. Hahn followed that up with, “We looked around at different communities from Hinkley down to the Iowa Border and we really liked this area. We we’re just meeting with different people in town. It seemed like the people here were nicer.”

So the combination of available space and kind people sold the partners on Cottage Grove and the rest is, as they say, history.

“We feel like 20 years is quite the accomplishment, that is why we have this celebration. It is fast on one hand but slow on the other hand,” said Dr. Sheppard.

“Yeah, it takes a lot of work of work to stay open for 20 years,” added Dr. Hahn. “You look at some of the other businesses that have come and gone in that time like Rainbow Foods, big chain businesses that you would think would be easy to maintain and run. It does take constant work and effort to keep adapting and just the health industry has changed so much over the last 20 years. It’s constant work to keep working and changing and adapting with the environment.”

One of the biggest changes they have made is the move from paper records to computerized records. The transition sounds easy and logical, but it takes a long time to become proficient at the data entry. With the advancement of the computerized records, new patients can do all their paperwork from their phone before they even come into the office. They can also see their charts including any test results and digital x-rays.
