Omot leads Park in SEC Track and field finals

Park High senior OT Omot soared over 6-6 and to a conference championship in the boys high jump finals to highlight the Park boys and girls at Suburban East Conference track and field finals held Tuesday, May 23 and Thursday, May 25 at Forest Lake High School.

Omot’s leap of 6-6 was just two inches off the school record of 6-8, set by Bryant Howe in 2000. Omot was also second in the boys triple jump (45-01.25) and 20th in the long jump (19-5.5).

Park finished ninth in both the boys and girls team races.

Park teammate David Ola-Kazeem was fourth in the triple jump (43-10.75) and Skylar Morgan eighth (42-07.25). Ola-Kazeem also finished fourth in the long jump finals, going 21-07.5, and 13th in the high jump (5-8). Eyuel Miftah was 12th in the triple jump (41-3).

Senior Nicholas McDonald was 10th in the 800 (2:04.88) and 14th in the 1,600 (4:40.44). Gavin Stauffer was 24th in the 3,200 in 10:50.84. Samuel Lankow finished 21st in the pole vault (10-0).

Park senior Calik Nute finished 10th in the shot put (45-09.50) and was 15th in the discus (119-07). Blasy Taran was 14th in the shot put (42-8.5).

Park’s boys relay teams were fourth in the 4x100 (Ola-Kazeem, Paul Giadyu, Morgan, Omot) in 43.95 and seventh in the 4x800 (Henry Schluetter, Jack Weir, Brandon Carver, Gavin Stauffer) (9:00.95).

Other Park finishers included: Morgan, 18th in the 100 (11.92), Fiyinfoluwa Taiwo, 21st in the 200 (23.95), Dominic Jenkins, 14th in the 400 (54.03), Mason Allen, 14th in the 800 (2:04.80), Tyler Krogman, 20th in the 800 (2:07.88) and 28th in the 1,600 (4:48.90), Gavin Stauffer, 24th in the 3,200 (10:50.84), Naod Tewelde, 33rd in the 110-meter high hurdles (19:07).

Stillwater won the boys team race with 164.5 points, followed by Mounds View, 156.5; Woodbury, 154; Forest Lake, 103; White Bear Lake, 96.5; Irondale, 89.5; East Ridge, 87; Roseville, 69; Park, 49; and Cretin-Derham Hall, 22.

Girls results

Junior Victoria Stepka paced the Park girls team with a fifth-place finish in the 800 (2:23.37).

Sophomore Zoey Bammert-Mueller took seventh in the shot put with a throw of 33-2.25 and was 24th in the discus (81-3.5). Karis Waindim was 20th in the discus (87-0.5).  

Sophomore Hailey Kieffer tied for seventh in the high jump (4-8). Aliya Tannahill was 11th in the high jump (4-6) and 37th in the long jump (13-2.5). Savannah Brown placed 11th in the pole vault, clearing 8-6.

Senior Finley Leick was 10th in the 3,200 meters in 12:11.99 and 17th in the 1,600 in 5:37.42.

Park’s relay teams were ninth in the 4x100 (53.00), 4x200 (1:53.85) and 4x400 (4:23.71).

Susan Mbu was 18th in the 100 (13.47) and 21st in the pole vault (8-0), Annelise Faletti was 17th in the 200 (27.85) and 18thin the 400 (1:05.16), Elizabeth Ayala was 22nd in the 100-meter hurdles (19.32), Kieffer was 22nd in the 300-meter hurdles (54.19), Vanessa Suh was 26th in the triple jump (30-1.5), Anna Marie Larsen was 33rd in the discus (76-11.5) and 33rd in the shot put (26-1.5).

Roseville finished first in the girls team race with 218 points, followed by: Mounds View, 190; Stillwater, 174; Forest Lake, 117.5; White Bear Lake, 108.5; East Ridge, 82; Woodbury, 53; Irondale, 28.5; Park. 13.5 and Cretin-Derham Hall, 5.

Park will compete in the section meet Wednesday, May 31 and Friday, June 2, at Two Rivers High School.
