No. 4 Park softball team wins Monday, goes to 7-2

Posted

Fourth-ranked Park knocked off host Mounds View 7-1 Monday afternoon in girls softball to improve to 6-1 in the Suburban East Conference and 7-2 on the season.

The Wolfpack went 4-1 in a busy week of softball, including a big win at Winona Saturday and a hard-fought loss at Forest Lake last Wednesday.

At Mounds View on Monday, Stella Fritsche combined with Mackenzie Darsow and Ava Youngquist to shut down the Mustangs 7-1.  Bryleigh Dana swung the big stick for the Wolfpack in this one as she doubled and homered to help spark the Park hitters.

The first-of-the-season 2023 Star Tribune Metro Top 10 is led by Rosemount at No. 1, Stillwater at No. 2, Eden Prairie at No. 3 and Park at No. 4. Forest Lake is ranked No. 6 and White Bear Lake No. 10.

Park’s busy slate continues this week as the Wolfpack hosts Woodbury (0-7, 1-7) on Wednesday, Mounds View (1-6, 1-6) on Thursday and Cretin-Derham Hall (6-3, 6-3) on Friday.

Park 6, Irondale 0

Park’s Fritsche picked up her fifth victory of the season in a 6-0 Wolfpack win at Irondale Monday.

Edie Walton smacked two doubles while bringing in three runs for the Wolfpack.  Emma Ambroz and Bryleigh Dana also doubled for Park.

Fritsche finished with eight strikeouts on the night before giving way to Mackenzie Darsow and Ava Youngquist in the circle.

Forest Lake 6, Park 2

Park suffered its first Suburban East Conference loss of the season Wednesday at sixth-ranked Forest Lake, falling 6-2 to the Rangers.

Park 4, Winona 1

The Wolfpack handed Winona its first loss of the season Saturday, with Park taking a 4-1 decision. Winona had won eight straight games to open the season.

Against Winona, Stella Fritsche went the distance in picking up the pitching win, with Emma Ambroz going two for four with a double and a home run.

“Winona is one of the top teams in AAA,” said Park coach Bob Loshek. “They always have tough pitching, which they showed for the first five innings of the game, but we kept chipping away until they made a mistake.  Their hitters were very aggressive and we played very good defense in the windy conditions.”
