Christopher B. Schaeppi, 29, Saint Paul Park, was charged in Dakota County District Court on March 1 with felony domestic assault with two prior convictions and felony domestic assault by strangulation.

On Feb. 26, 2023, Hastings police responded to the area under the Hastings High Bridge for a domestic assault. According to the complaint, the victim reported that she had left her apartment because her boyfriend, Schaeppi, had assaulted her.

The victim stated that the previous evening they had been drinking and packing up belongings to move out of the apartment the next day. She woke up the next morning to a phone call from the City of Hastings asking her to move her vehicle out of the alley. She left the apartment, moved the vehicle and went back inside. When she moved the vehicle, she noticed there was damage to her vehicle and believed Schaeppi had caused it. When confronted by the victim about the damage, Schaeppi became enraged, grabbing her and placing his elbow around her neck causing her difficulty in breathing.

According to the complaint, the victim stated Schaeppi was upset because he believed there was something happening between her and his friend. When Schaeppi fell asleep, the victim ran out of the apartment and flagged down a vehicle to call 911. Schaeppi was found in Washington County on Feb. 27 and booked into the Dakota County Jail.
