10th anniversary celebration of CG Bike Park

The Cottage Grove Bike Park, located in West Draw Park at 7050 Meadow Grass Ave. S. in the Pine Summit neighborhood, is hosting a 10th anniversary celebration from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 19 and everyone is invited.

This event is a chance to get people together to celebrate the park and its 10 years of existence, explained Bike Park Volunteer Chance Glasford. He said there will be fun events for all, including a skills clinic for kids put on by Shifting Gears Mountain Bike Club. There will also be a raffle with items like a complete Cult Crew BMX bike, a $100 Cub Foods gift card, a GT Performer Bike, and a Burley D'Lite X Double Bike Trailer. Food and drink will also be available for purchase from the Cottage Grove Lions Club, with all proceeds benefiting the Bike Park.

Open daily from dusk until dawn, the 3-acre bike park opened its doors in 2013 as a means of providing kids and families more opportunities to get outside and be active. According to Glasford, it is home to a paved pump track, a dirt pump track, and a tot track. The park also contains a mountain bike skills section, including a progressive drop zone, four progressive jump lines from beginner to professional, a slopestyle course, and two mountain bike specific jump lines – intermediate and advanced. The new prairie trail loop, designed for XC mountain bikers and Cyclo-cross riders, will also open on Aug. 13.

This well-maintained, family-friendly bike park is available for public use, free of charge. Glasford explained that the park “is primarily volunteer-built and is 100% volunteer-maintained. It is also primarily funded by donations, however, we have written a couple grants and won a contest, as well as received some city support like the new rock retaining wall around the paved pump track.”

Come on out to the Cottage Grove Bike Park on Aug. 19 to enjoy food, drinks, and celebrate biking with the community.
