SCANDIA – The Washington County Historical Society is hosting from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, June 17 the 16th Annual Hay Lake Beer Tasting Fundraiser & Silent Auction. Admission to the event is $20 per person and participants must be 21 years or older. All proceeds from this event benefit the Washington County Historical Society.

For 16 years, this event has become the keystone fundraiser for the Washington County Historical Society. This year the breweries attending are Bent Brewstillery, Lift Bridge Brewery, Castle Danger, Joseph Wolf Brewery, East Lake Brewery, Surly Brewing, Sierra Nevada Brewery, and Rustic Roots Winery.

The beer is just part of it; in addition, there will be a silent auction that includes tickets to the Minnesota State Fair, tickets to a St. Paul Saints baseball game, tickets to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, movie passes from Woodbury 10 Theater, and framed maps of the battle of Gettysburg and the Minnesota Territory. There is much, much more!

Extra excitement will be the vintage baseball at the Lions Park next to the Hay Lake School. Vintage Baseball, played by the rules of 1860, will start at 12:30 and go until 4 p.m. The reigning Minnesota Vintage Baseball champions, the St. Croix Base Ball Club, will be playing against several other clubs for the enjoyment and education of the crowds. No cost to attend the games, just bring your own chair and enjoy the event.

The Hay Lake School was constructed out of brick in 1896 and held classes until 1963. After that, the Washington County Historical Society purchased the school in 1978 and it has been a public museum ever since. The school is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Hay Lake School Museum & Johannes Erickson Log House Museum are located at 14020 195th St. N., Marine on St. Croix, MN 55047.
