In search of something fun to do?
The 2024 Matt Van Horn Cornhole Tournament will take place at Park Place Sports Bar in St. Paul Park on Saturday, Sept. 28. Registration begins at noon.
Named for the late brother of event organizer Brian VanHorn, the tournament is now in its 11th year.
“It’s a tribute to my brother who passed away 11 years ago,” Brian VanHorn said of the event recently. Matt VanHorn was a middle school wrestling coach and wrestler, the tournament held to continue that legacy.
Co-sponsored by the Park Wrestling Booster Club and Matt VanHorn Scholarship, proceeds from the tournament will be split 50/50 between wrestling program needs and a scholarship awarded to a senior wrestler looking to pursue wrestling past high school.
A bean bag tournament, the 2024 Matt VanHorn Cornhole Tournament at 606 Second St. will see bean bags fly at 1:30 p.m., following noon registration.
In addition to bean bag competition, the tournament scheduled for Park Place Sports Bar in St. Paul Park will have a meat raffle from 1-4 pm., as well as a silent auction and a beer and wine wall. The silent auction is sponsored by Van Meter. An air mail event will be sponsored by Jarid Reeves of Realty Group while the meat raffle will be sponsored by Duffy Homes Group and Keller Williams Select Realty.
The event is still looking for a title sponsor, along with event volunteers and auction basket donations.
Those interested in being a title sponsor for the event or donating gift baskets and meat raffle items may contact Booster Club Fundraising Director Mark Duffy at 612-986-2246. Google docs have been set up on the Park Wrestling Booster Club Facebook page for volunteering, meat raffle donations, and auction baskets pledges.
As for those interested in forming bean bag teams to compete, they can text their team name and players to Brian VanHorn at 651-336-5765. Registration for the tournament is $50 per team with first place winning $200, second place $150, and third place $100.
Come on out for fun and to support a good cause. Once again, the 2024 Matt VanHorn Cornhole Tournament takes place Saturday, Sept. 28 at Park Place Sports Bar in St. Paul Park.
