A story to tell

It’s been kind of a fuzzy, wiggly time and new ways of seeing things in the last few weeks due to the cataract and now the “wrinkle” surgery. I was so used to being near sighted and now it appears that I am far sighted and will need some correction. I borrowed a pair of readers from Husband Larry and that did offer help for reading with the left eye. It’s a different ball game with the bubble thing in the right eye as that needs to dissolve over time. It started off as a black hole that is slowly going away. It’s flashing black and white lights at a different level each day. Nothing like having built in entertainment! I am working hard on thinking and telling myself that it will all work out and be grateful things can be done to make us humans better. It’s a small problem in the buckle of life and has an answer.

Just when we thought the world was coming around to a better place, we are again going back to the news of despair and possible moves that will take us back to past dark days. Who is telling the truth? Who can we trust? A lot of humans are not being kind to each other these days and one begins to wonder at times if there is any care left in the world. I will tell you our story on that subject.

Husband Larry and I took a scouting trip to the Phillips Eye Institute area before surgery so we had an idea of where to go on the actual day. After a few wrong ways and turn arounds we felt we could handle it and decided that Outback Restaurant would be our reward for supper. We parked and almost got to the restaurant door when Husband Larry discovered he did not have his wallet and I had not taken my handbag either. We headed back to the car and a young man with a little boy called out and asked what the problem was. We quickly explained and said it was going to be supper at home for us. The young man said, “No, don’t do that, I will buy you supper and you can pay me back later if you wish”. It took a few seconds for that to sink in as we were complete strangers to each other. We said yes and exchanged names, etc. I said it was a very kind thing to do for us and thanked him for a good deed. His son said that he also does good deeds each day because his dad does. Yes, that brought tears to my eyes and told them both how reassuring that was and that there is hope for kindness in the world.

Maybe things were meant to be and or it’s a small world because Husband Larry called the young man the next day to get his home address so we could send the repayment check and a package. That led to an hour long conversation and it turns out he is very interested in buying a home around Hastings and he mentioned that Nininger Township was one of the areas he wanted to check out. This eye thing sure is getting a lot of history to it.

Maybe I need to get out my drum and do some serious drumming for rain. Maybe it will just frighten the neighbors but at least I will not have to see good to pound on it. We can see how much this lack of rain is doing to corn and grain fields and some of the trees are already shedding their leaves. It’s a struggle to keep the vegetable gardens going and the bugs seem to be doing extra good in this dry year and they are also very hungry. The almost new pump on my water transport kicked the bucket so we have to dip the water out by hand to water the Car Park by the end of the driveway. (Of course the new one is having issues being shipped)! We can reach most of the flower beds with a hose by the house but we have let the lawn go unwatered.

I saw a reminder the other day to NOT fertilize dry plants. Be sure that they are hydrated first and then apply any fertilizer. Another thing to do especially this year to help reduce stress on flowers is to dead head them if they are in need. Let them skip the seed reproduction effort and just send up more flowers this year. Most will also do better once it cools down. Me too!
