Bailey Aasen has been hired as the new girls' lacrosse coach at Park High School. She takes over for Scott Leonard, who resigned from that position this summer after leading the program since its inception in 2007.
“Coach Leonard founded the girls' lacrosse program (along with the co-head coach at the time Kyle Kane) and has been the head coach ever since,” said Phil Kuemmel, Activities Director. “He has done great things for our program. Scott has been able to create a fun yet competitive environment where the girls have been able to develop skills both on and off the field. He leaves the program after a very successful run, including three consecutive conference championships, a section championship, and third place finish in the state. I appreciate all that Coach Leonard has done for our program. He will be missed.”
Coach Aasen has been a part of our girls' lacrosse program for many years; Kuemmel said, first as a player and then as an assistant coach. Bailey set many school records while playing lacrosse for the Wolfpack and played at Augustana College. She has also been very involved in the CGAA youth program.
“We are very lucky to have Coach Aasen step into this role at Park,” Kuemmel continued. “The experience that she brings will benefit our program. Bailey realizes the importance of building relationships with the players and is also excited to continue building the program from the youth level on up. Her purpose as a coach includes a goal to cultivate a space where athletes can come to the field, leave behind self-doubt and worries, and take up space to be themselves, which will benefit Park’s student-athletes in both lacrosse and life.”
"I am honored to have the chance to continue to build from the legacy left behind from Coach Leonard and look forward to the opportunity to leave my mark as a coach at Park High School,” said Aasen. “My coaching is rooted in building a positive and exciting environment for young minds to thrive.”
