Team manager Dan Harrison likes the makeup of this season’s St. Paul Park Post 98 American Legion baseball team.
“It’s kind of a unique group this year,” said Harrison. “We have several pretty good baseball players. We have some strong senior leadership in guys like Boston Weidner. Owen Rose, Elijah Moechnig, Tyler Schwartz and Adam king. Nathan Waterman hurt his shoulder but will DH for us.
“We have some experience,” Harrison added. “It’s not always that you have seniors playing much. That excitement to play, the passion for the game is under appreciated. And they’re very coachable. Then we have some sophomores that are pretty solid, like Max Kaplan.
A somewhat disappointing Park High School season will be extra motivation for this year’s team, Harrison added.
On the roster this season are Moechnig, King, Weidner, Anson Dockter, Logan Doherty, Marcus Drak, Schwartz, Charlie Brooke, Jamie Fick, Nathan Waterman, Bryce Henk, Luke Hatano, Max Kaplan, Mason Hanson, Rose, Nathan Rolf, David Rolf, Daniel Swanson and Justin Waterman.
“We’ll be a good offensive team,” Harrison said. “We’ll have a deep but not super experienced pitching staff. The kids will swing the bats and will steal the bases.”
“It’s exciting to teach them to be aggressive,” Harrison continued. “It’s the boys the summer. We’ll focus on seizing opportunities and use failure as a stepping stone to getting better.”
