August 29 meeting highlights planned Southwest Arterial Project

Holding a roadside presentation in the Cottage Grove Business Park on Monday August29, select county, city, and federal officials each talked about the progress of theSouthwest Arterial Project, with a planned realignment of County Road 19 and railroadbridge to align with 100th Street South providing a more direct path to the CottageGrove Business Park from Highway 61, as well as Grey Cloud Island. At present Highway 61 is considered a “principal arterial, with the planned connector asupporting roadway as traffic patterns change.“This is a $43 million project that will diversify our tax base and add billions in marketvalue and create thousands of new jobs,” Mayor Myron Bailey said at the Mondaymorning event. “When complete the new arterial roadway will open an additional 2,000acres to development in the industrial park as well as residential projects that cancome.”Bailey thanked District 2 U.S. Representative Angie Craig for helping ensure thatfederal funds would return to the local area to grow the local community.
