For those interested in city affairs, Cottage Grove Mayor Myron Bailey is due to give his ‘State of the City’ address on February 2 at 6 p.m. from the City Council chambers. Those not wishing to travel to City Halls can tune in to the City You-Tube channel, among other venues.
Meanwhile building off last month’s Mayor’s Moment where he touted open space and parks within the city, Mayor Bailey talked new development in the southwest business park.
“I’m happy to kick off the new Year with some information on the City’s growing business park,” Bailey shares in the moment uploaded January 13 to You-Tube and shared with residents. “A lot is happening off Highway 61 and Jamaica Avenue, with more to come in 2022.”
Turning to the big news, Mayor Bailey noted the Council’s approval of the Master Site Plan for North-Point Development off 100th Avenue, due to become a logistics center.
“You’ll start seeing some dirt moving on this project in Spring, once the weather cooperates,” Bailey said of Mother Nature and the winter frost.
Shifting next to benefits to local residents, Bailey shares that the 3.4 million square-foot campus off 100th Street South will bring “more than 1,800 good paying jobs to our community.” Not tied to a single jobskills set, the development in the southwest business park will include manufacturing, distribution, warehouse, and office space, being built in four phases.
Making a $310 million investment in the Cottage Grove area, NorthPoint will add to the city’s tax base, Bailey makes known.
“This is great news,” he says, then sharing more information he says viewers might not know about. “NorthPoint investment has served as a catylyst for industrial growth in our city,” he says. “The word is out, Cottage Grove is special. We’re a business-friendly city.” As a result, Bailey says that there are currently four other companies “interested in buying land in our business park.” Said to add “liveable wage jobs, “Mayor Bailey shares that ongoing development in southwest Cottage Grove and the expanded tax base will benefit the city, county, and school districts. Along with expanding the tax base, however, NorthPoint is doing more, the Mayor shares.
“Another great part of the NorthPoint development is they will be paying for roads to be built around the business park,” Bailey shares, including 100th Street from Jamaica to Hemingway Avenue, Ideal Avenue from 100th to 105th Street, and 105th Street from Ideal Avenue to a cul-de-sac at the end. Along with this, North-Point will be paying for the supporting infrastructure including sanitary and storm sewers, along with water.
“These public improvements meet the needs of development and the city, but at no cost to you, the taxpayer,” Bailey shares in the January Mayor’s Moment, wishing residents a happy new year as he says the improvements make Cottage Grove “an even better place to work and play.”

City strategic plan goals were also highlighted in the January Mayor’s Moment, with Mayor Myron Bailey due to give his State of the City address February 2 from City Hall.Screen grab from City of Cottage Grove YouTube channel.
