A hard luck season got just a little bit harder Monday as visiting Forest Lake got past Park 9-7 in eight innings in the final regular season game for both teams.
Park grabbed an early 5-0 lead after two innings, but the Rangers battled back to tie the game t six all after four. Forest Lake then took a 7-6 lead in the sixth, but Park answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.
Forest Lake then scored two runs in the top of the eighth to take a 9-7 lead, The Wolfpack started the bottom of the inning well, putting two men on with no outs. But the next two Park batters struck out and then hit into a double play to end the game.
It was the Wolfpack’s seventh loss in eight games – with only a stunning 11-4 win over White Bear Lake breaking up the skid.
It was another frustrating loss in a season of frustrating losses for the Woolpack.
“We’ve had a few tough losses the last week,” said Park head coach Dave Darr. “There were a couple of plays we felt that we didn’t – early in the game a couple of pop flies – that we didn’t go hard after and it kind of allowed them to score their first three runs and it was – we need to at least try to go get those balls and I think that kind of set the tone. We kind of came out flat and I think that kind of set the table.
“Then we rally and we get ahead something like six to one and they’re a team, they’re not going to hit the ball all over the park but they make you make plays,” Darr continued. “They bunted really well and they made us throw strikes and they ran the bases and they make you have to make plays in key situations and we didn’t do that well enough today.”
Park finished 4-14 and in ninth place in the Suburban East Conference and 4-16 for the regular season. A section opener now awaits the Wolfpack on Monday.
Forest Lake finished 8-10 in the SEC and 9-11 overall.
Stillwater won the conference with a 15-3 record, followed by Mounds View at 13-5 and then Cretin-Derham Hall and East Ridge, both at 12-6.
Owatonna 11, Park 2
The Wolfpack dropped an 11-2 non-conference decision at Owatonna Saturday afternoon.
Park 11, White Bear Lake 4
The Wolfpack had one of their best wins of the season and snapped an ugly four-game losing Suburban East Conference streak with a convincing 11-4 win at White Bear Lake Wednesday.
