Jackson Hockert’s grand slam home run in the fifth inning keyed the visiting Park Wolfpack to score by far their biggest win of the season in a wild 16-11 win over top-ranked and Suburban East Conference leader Mounds View Monday afternoon.

Park trailed 5-1 heading into the top of the fifth but exploded for 12 runs in the inning and never looked back.

Park came into the game with just two wins in 11 starts so far this season but knocked off the leading Mustangs at Mounds View. Mounds View had opened the season with nine straight wins, but is just 2-3 in its last three outings, losing at White Bear Lake, at Stillwater and then at home to Park.

The 16 runs are the most the Mustangs have given up all season.

“We hit the ball well last night,” said Park head coach David Darr. “The boys did a great job of attacking the ball when it was in the strike zone. They were patient and willing to wait for a pitch they could hit hard. Our pitching kept us in the game until our bats exploded in the fifth inning.

“Jackson Hockert hit a grand slam in that inning,” Darr added. “His first home run of his career. It was a great team win and hopefully something we can build off of for the next few weeks.”

Park had hits up and down the lineup and outhit the hosts 13-7. Nolan Sease went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Hockert was 2-for-4 with five RBIs. Nick Nienow and Aaron Gilbert both went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jack Bachtle was 2-for-4. Emmit Opichka was 0-for-4 but drove in two runs. Eli Strusz was 1-for-4 but also pushed across two runs. Esten Erickson had an active afternoon. He was 1-for-3, scored two runs, drove in one run, stole one base and was hit by a pitch.

Fisher Engberg got the pitching win. He went four innings, allowed three hits, four earned runs, walked seven and struck out two. Owen De La Fores pitched 2.2 innings, allowing four hits, si runs, with a walk and no strikeouts.

The Wolfpack improved to 3-8 in the SEC and 3-9 on the season. Mounds View slipped to 9-3 in the conference and into a three-way tie with Stillwater and Woodbury.

Park hosts East Ridge (7-5, 10-6) Wednesday, plays at Roseville (3-9, 3-10) Friday and hosts No. 20 Woodbury (9-3, 12-3) on Monday, all games starting at 4:30 p.m.

Park 10, Irondale 6

Park broke a very tough nine-game losing streak with a relieving 10-6 win over visiting Irondale in Suburban East Conference baseball Friday.

The Wolfpack opened the season with a 16-1 win over Irondale but hadn’t won since. But Friday things were working for the Wolfpack.

Cretin-Derham Hall 8, Park 4

Host and second-ranked Cretin-Derham Hall scored an 8-4 win in Suburban East Conference play Wednesday in St. Paul.
