It was a challenging week for the Park baseball team as the Wolfpack dropped three games in Suburban East Conference play, including 5-2 loss to visiting White Bear Lake on Monday.

Park led 2-1 until the sixth inning when the Bears pushed across four runs on two singles, a double and a Park error.

The Wolfpack tied the game at 1-all in the first as leadoff batter Nick Nienow, singled, stole a base and scored. The Wolfpack then went up 2-1 in the second as Aaron Gibert socked a one-out triple and scored. But that was the offensive fireworks for the Wolfpack.

Senior pitcher Fisher Engberg threw well for the Wolfpack through five innings, allowing just one run and three hits with three strikeouts, but tired in the sixth when the Bears started connecting.

“Fisher Engberg threw very well, just ran out of stream there at the end,” said Park head coach David Darr. “He threw well and we had chances. We battled but we just got beat and that’s just how it is. We didn’t play poorly. They just hit the ball a little bit better than us in key situations and that’s kind of how baseball works.

“We’re coming along, we’re seeing growth,” Darr added. “It’s just going to take a little bit more time than we thought. We’ll keep cleaning things up and keep battling and working hard. Game-by-game we’re getting better at bats and we’re working on things and that’s the process we’ve got to deal with right now and we’ll keeping doing that and we’ll get there. We’ll keep battling and I think by the end of the year the bats will be going pretty good.”

Park dropped to 1-5 in the SEC and overall. The Wolfpack play at Stillwater (2-3. 2-3) Wednesday, at Forest Lake Friday (2-3, 2-4) then host Cretin-Derham Hall (3-2, 3-2) on Monday.
