Need something to do this weekend that also supports a good cause?
“Battle of the Badges” is coming to Park High School on Saturday, May 17.
The charity fundraiser basketball game will see local fire and police face off against each other to benefit Basic Needs Inc. of South Washington County, and SoWash CARES. Basic Needs Inc. seeks to uplift individuals facing hardship through barrier-free access to free food, affordable clothing an, and social service connections. SoWash CARES Education Foundation is a community led non-profit that supports the South Washington County (SoWashCo) School district Community.
Participating agencies in the Saturday fundraiser game for Basic Needs Inc. and SoWashCARES include the Cottage Grove Police and Fire Departments, St. Paul Park Police and Fire, Newport Fire, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and Woodbury Police and Fire, all depending on their availability for the day.
Game start is at 4 p.m. St. Paul Park Mayor Keith Franke has agreed to referee the event, with other city officials invited to take part as special guests. State House Rep. Wayne Johnson will toss the coin to start the game. Basic Needs Inc. Executive Director Opey Peñaloga shared more on the charity event.
“Battle of the Badges falls on the final day of National Police Week, making it a powerful way to honor the service of our local police and fire departments,” he said. “It’s inspiring to see our public safety agencies from Woodbury, Cottage Grove, Saint Paul Park, and Newport come together—not just to play, but to raise critical funds for students and families in need across South Washington County”
“This event is all about the power of community—neighbors supporting neighbors. Every dollar raised at Battle of the Badges goes directly toward feeding families, equipping students, and meeting urgent needs right here in our own backyard. When we come together like this, we show what South Washington County is truly all about.”
Come on out and enjoy the game Saturday, May 17 at Park High!
