Boys hockey team bows out in quarterfinals

Park’s 2021-22 season came to an end in a 6-0 loss at Rosemount in the Section 3AA quarterfinals Tuesday.

The Irish led 1-0 after one period and 2-0 after two, then scored four goals in the third to win going away.

Rosemount outshot Park 43-12 in the contest.

Park ends its season with a 13-11-1 record. The Wolfpack were 5-7-1 in the Suburban East Conference, finishing fifth in the 10-team league. Season highlights were undoubtedly the dramatic 3-1 and 6-3 wins over rival East Ridge.

The Wolfpack suffered some tough losses along the way, but it was Park’s most wins in a decade and the first winning season since the 2011-12 team went 12-9-4.

Brady Strand was the scoring leader for the season with 20 goals, followed by Samuel Janski with 19. Jackson Rudh led the team with 37 assists, Strand had 21 and Janski 18. Rudh was the top points getter with 43, followed closely by Strand with 41 and Janski with 37. Strand and Janski are seniors, while Rudh is a ninth grader.

Junior Alex Harden had seven wins in goal, a 3.53 goals against average and an .874 save percentage.

Rosemount (12-13-1) advanced to the section semifinals and a date against top-seeded Cretin- Derham Hall. Cretin (23-3) won that game 5-1 and will play third-seeded Eastview for the section title Thursday.
