Three games into the season and the Park boys' lacrosse team is rolling.
The latest win came Monday evening as the Wolfpack rolled Forest Lake 19-10 in a game Park coaches weren’t particularly happy with.
“Today’s game was not very good,” said co-head coach Matt Foote. “When they played against Woodbury they played as a team, they played as a unit, they moved the ball, defense was solid, a lot of communication. Today we kind of lacked a lot of that. We were out there more of individuals rather than a team. Yea they scored a bunch of goals but at the end of the day we let in a bunch of goals too.”
Despite that, the Wolfpack are 3-0 in the young season with wins over Woodbury (9-7), Simley (18-6) and Forest Lake (19-10).
Leading 10-7 after two periods, the Wolfpack put the game away with a dominate third period, outscoring the Rangers 8-1 in the period to take an 18-8 lead.
Park junior attack star Bradley Johnson had another big night for the Wolfpack, scoring eight goals and adding three assists. Zachary Devaan scored four goals, Caden Schwartz added two, while Evan Foote, Henry Voss and Jacon Czarnota had one goal each.
“We have a lot of fun, we’re working good together, got a lot of new players,” said Johnson, who now had 18 goals in three games.
Asked what the key to Park’s improvement in the next few games was, Johnson said, “Keep passing the ball, get the new players the ball in games like this so when we play an East Ridge or a Cretin that we can put this all together.”
“I just think a big thing coming off of Woodbury it was a huge win, we were working well as a team and I think building off of that,” said midfielder Hank Voss. “We can definitely improve on some things but early off we did really good job working as a team and I just think … a big reason we’re just winning is discipline. In practice we’re running a lot, we’re moving, we’re talking and that’s just how it is. We work hard.”
Park 9, Woodbury 7
Visiting Woodbury jumped out to a 4-1 start after one period, but the Wolfpack clawed their way back to take a 9-7 win in the season opener April 15.
Park outscored the Royals 5-1 in the second and third periods to take a 6-5 lead, then won it with a 3-2 edge in the fourth period.
Bradley Johnson led the Park offense, scoring five goals. Zachary Devaan added two scores, Samuel Reckinger and Jacob Czarnota one each.
Goalie Gavin Sand stopped 14 of 21 shots on goal.
Park 18, Simley 6
Park’s Bradley Johnson and Zachary Devaan each scored five goals to lead the Wolfpack to an easy win over Simley at Inver Grove Heights Saturday morning.
Samuel Reckinger had three scores for the Wolfpack, Evan Foote and Jacob Czarnota two tallies each and Matthew Kamande one.
