Boys LAX team struggles in loss

At the end of a long Friday night lacrosse, Park head coach Alain Rodrigue told his players heading for prom on Saturday not to have too much fun.

They certainly didn’t have much fun Friday. Visiting Irondale jumped out to a 9-0 after the first quarter, led 13-2 at the half and the game’s outcome was pretty much decided by that stage. The Knights would take a 21-2 win back home to Irondale while the Wolfpack pondered what went wrong and how to fix it.

“There’s a lot to work on,” said Rodrigue. “After the first quarter they kind of stepped up and started communicating more a little but more defensively, but we still have a long ways to go. We’re not sliding properly, sometimes the second slide doesn’t happen. Offensively after we’ve played three minutes of defense we rush it. So we need to recognize that we need to settle the ball, give our guys a rest, etc.

“So, there’s a lot and it’s all the lacrosse IQ mostly, I think the heart is there,” Rodrigue added. “The intent is there; the IQ is not there as a group. … it’s the small victories that you’ve got to take when you can. And we had a few out there but not enough to change the scoreboard.”

Senior Zachary DeVaan had both goals for the Wolfpack.

It was the third straight lopsided loss for the Wolfpack who fell 14-1 to Forest Lake and 15-8 to Cretin Derham Hall. Park slipped to 1-4 in the Suburban East Conference and 2-5 overall.

Irondale improved to 4-2 in the SEC and 6-2 on the season.

Park hosts conference leader and second-ranked Stillwater Thursday (6-0, 8-0), then plays at White Bear Lake (4-2, 5-2) on Tuesday.

Cretin-Derham Hall 15, Park 8

The host Raiders took a 15-8 decision from visiting Park Tuesday in Suburban East Conference play.

The Wolfpack were 8 for 16 scoring.
