Boys soccer has third straight tie

Park broke its run of three straight ties with a 2-1 win over visiting North St. Paul in boys’ soccer Saturday.

Charlie Gutzman and Killian Krech scored goals for the Wolfpack. Michael Schult had an assist.

In Wednesday’s game against visiting Roseville, Park battled to a 2-2 tie, the Wolfpack’s third straight tie in Suburban East Conference play. “Tonight I thought we probably played our best game of the year,” said head coach Andrew Bourgoine. “We’re got to make sure they’re playing just like this and we’ll be fine the rest of the season.”

Jordan Glover and Gutzman scored goals for the Wolfpack. Ajub Mohamed earned an assist.

Bourgoine praised the play of three players in particular, starting with goalie Zach Valento.

“He (Valento) has moments when he didn’t keep his head a little bit, I just need him to keep his head. But for the most part he’s just so active. We haven’t had a goalie here at Park for a while that’s been so active. The goalie this year, Zach, is one of the best goalies that comes up. And just doesn’t let through balls go through and is super active, which is nice.

“I thought Ajub (Mohamed), he was on the rightwing and he was dangerous all night. He was the one who crossed the first half and got our PK (penalty kick) and he was the one who got the assist on our second goal, too,” Bourgoine noted. “Noah (Haupt) our center midfielder pretty much just helped us control the whole game. Those three players stood out to me and our back line was good, too.”

Park (0-0-3, 3-1-4) hosts White Bear Lake (1-1-1, 4-2-1) Thursday, starting at 7 p.m.
