Park took a 2-1 lead at the half but visiting Bloomington Jefferson scored the only goal of the second half as the two teams battled to a 2-2 tie Thursday in the 2026 boys soccer season opener.
Senior midfielder JJ Sanchez had both goals for the Wolfpack. Seniors Devan Yang and Chance Vang had assists.
“I think we moved the ball well, we attacked well and we finished chances,” said Sanchez. “A sometimes we didn’t keep the ball very well and it cost us.”
“I feel we’ve got to work on watching our outside runs and also finishing our chances,” said Devan Yang. “Tonight I think we moved the ball well and like building from the back to the forward.”
Park junior goalie Donovan Sheak had five saves and allowed two goals for a .714 success rate in the net.
“We moved the ball really well and our center mids -- I would say this is one of the better center mid groups we’ve had in a long time and like they can just move the ball at will,” said Park head coach Andrew Bourgoine. “It’s just can we translate that moving the ball well with a little bit more quickness. Dribbling a little bit more, can we hit that quick before the defense gets set and then we attack them that way.
The Wolfpack will likely take a few games to jell as a team, said the Park coach.
“But for the most part, playing together this whole varsity team is brand new together,” Bourgoine added. “The back line is brand new together, never played together, goalie is brand new, center mids – but they’ve never played center mids together at the same time. So, like a brand-new team and it’s going to take a couple of games just to, timing of runs, where they’re going to be. The most important thing is to get better quicker.”
