Busy Beaver Park to get new playground equipment

Busy Beaver Park at Newport is getting some updates.
Approved at the Jan. 4, 2024 regular council meeting, the new playground equipment to be located at the southwest corner of 10th Avenue and 17th Street is being made possible with partial funding help from Marathon Refinery, a fact to be reflected on park signage once complete.
Designed for those six and under, the updated equipment at Busy Beaver Park will have many features to help kids develop important motor and other skills.
After all, play isn’t just play, when learning is involved.
Preliminary plans for the park by Flagship Recreation and Landscape Structures show playground equipment including a Spyro Slide, Cozy Dome, Saddle Spinners, Log steppers and GeoPlex climbing wall.
“It’s a big improvement over what’s there now and I think the kids will really enjoy it,” Mayor Elliot said of the park at the Jan. 4 Council meeting.
Motion to approve the contract for playground work at Busy Beaver Park was made by council member Bill Sumner and seconded by council member Tom Ingmann, with the work quoted in the amount of $79,911.35.
