It’s a place that hosted presidents, in days gone by.
“To say that Cedarhurst has a storied past is underselling it a little bit,” Council member Dave Thiede observed in the July council update.
Once owned by Minnesota attorney Cordenio Severance and his wife Mary as a working farm and more recently, Cedarhurst Mansion in Cottage Grove might be getting new life.
Located at 6940 Keats Avenue South just off Military Road turned bike trail, the old Neoclassical Greek Revival mansion with 26 rooms and 12,000 square feet has garnered interest from an event based business that would seek to restore the historic parts of the mansion while adding modern amenities.
Listed on both the National Historic Register as well as the City Register of Historic Sites and Landmarks and valued today at $1.942 million, Cedarhurst Mansion was last purchased in 2021 by Three Sixty Development LLC of La Crosse. Three Sixty Development LLC sought to add additional buildings affecting the historical character of the site.
That plan fell through, with the new event based plan still requiring public meetings and plan commission to become a reality. With many details still out, we leave you with these photos (the inside from 2021) to show what Cedarhurst has been and what with time it might be again.
