Child drowns at Carver Lake Park Beach

Posted

According to a release by Woodbury Police, on 6/13/2021 at 6:10 P.M. Woodbury Public Safety was dispatched to Carver Lake Park Beach (3175 Century Av) for a report of a missing child. When responders arrived, they were told that a 9-year-old child had been missing for an extended period of time, and that he last observed walking from the water to nearby picnic tables.

Police Officers immediately coordinated a search in the water as well as the surrounding grounds. A search line was formed and entered the water. After about 15 minutes the child was located by a Woodbury Police Officer who had dived under the water to perform a visual search, close to the end of the designated swim area. The child- pulseless and not breathing- was rushed to the beach and onto a concrete sidewalk where responders began CPR. The child was transported by Woodbury Ambulance Regions Hospital. Despite continued emergency interventions, the child died.

Carver Lake Beach is not staffed by lifeguards and is signed notifying patrons as such. This is an open investigation, therefore further incident information and identification of persons involved is not available at this time.

We are grateful for the efforts and support from the beach goers, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Emergency Room Staff of Regions Hospital. Woodbury Public Safety staff are devastated for the loss of the child’s life, and our hearts go out to the family.
