City rethinks future growth areas
Faster than expected growth has led to a rethink on the city’s part of future growth areas, as senior city planner Matt Mrosla explained at the February 28 Plan Commission meeting. With the north city limits largely filled in for development, among the areas to be affected moving forward is a move of stage 3 to stage 1 (except for some 3M lands to the north), incorporation of the Mississippi Landings housing development and surrounding areas into the larger municipal grid with a piece to be serviced by St. Paul Park, and a reshuffle of stages 6, 7, and 8 by order of importance. The text of the 2040 Comprehensive Plan amendment was due next for submission to the Metropolitan Council, following its inclusion in the March 16 Council consent agenda. The application for NorthPoint Development, meanwhile, was bumped out to the April 6 Council meeting for review.
