The National Association of Counties (NACo) announced Aug. 6 that Washington County Commissioner Karla Bigham, District 4, has been appointed as the vice chair of the Justice and Public Safety Policy Steering Committee’s Law Enforcement Subcommittee.
“Serving as vice chair of the Law Enforcement Subcommittee provides an important opportunity to help shape policies that strengthen safety and trust in our communities,” said Commissioner Bigham. “I’m committed to working with county leaders nationwide to support effective, collaborative approaches to public safety.”
The Justice and Public Safety Policy Steering Committee meets throughout the year to discuss and recommend policies on issues of criminal justice, law enforcement, courts, corrections, homeland security, crime prevention, juvenile justice, emergency management, fire prevention, and handling civil disturbances.
NACo President George Dunlap stated that Commissioner Bigham was chosen because of her dedication to NACo. He mentioned that her active participation and leadership help NACo represent America's counties effectively.
NACo is a nonprofit organization that advocates for county interests in federal policy, promotes good county practices, develops leadership skills, shares knowledge, saves resources, and helps the public understand county government.
