The dates of Strawberry Fest may change, but organizers are working hard to make sure the popular event can take place this year.
The annual festival was cancelled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was planned to be held June 18-21. An estimated 20,000-25,000 people attend the event, which features food, bands, a carnival and much more.
As the vaccine to hopefully eradicate COVID-19 is distributed, many community groups are holding out hope that community events can be held this year.
Cottage Grove City Councilmember Dave Thiede is treasurer of Strawberry Fest, and he reported at last Wednesday night’s council meeting that planning is underway, though the date could change, he said. Strawberry Fest

“Right now we’re kind of checking to see if there’s any way that it could be later in the year, possibly,” he said. “We’re checking with the carnival, checking with the bands. So that’s just kind of what’s going on right now.”
He said another meeting is planned Jan. 18.
