Meeting for its regular meeting Monday, Dec. 4, the St. Paul Park Council saw a visit from Cottage Grove Mayor Myron Bailey and County Commissioner Karla Bigham, with Bigham bringing the council members recognition “from a grateful county,” followed with remarks from Bailey. The recognition came during Agenda Item 2, “Items from the Public.”

“”Good evening madam mayor and council,” Commissioner Bigham said. “I’m County Commissioner Karla Bigham and I’m from Cottage Grove. I understand it’s the last meeting for three of you, and wanted to bring some gratitude from a grateful county for your years of service.”

With that Bigham presented three awards; the first to Council member Jeff Haggerty for two years of service, the second to Tim Jones for 20 years of service, and the third to Mayor Sandi Dingle, on the council for 12 years and mayor for six, “for a combined total of 18.”

After the award presentations were made by Bigham, it was on to remarks from Cottage Grove Mayor Bailey.

“We couldn’t be the communities that we are in South Washington County if we didn’t all work together,” Bailey shared from the public comment area. “Whether it’s PFAS issues with our water, or public safety, transportation, everything flows together. What I wanted to do this evening understanding that Sandi is almost done as Mayor is present you with a plaque. Bailey then shared what the plaque says:

“Presented to Sandi Dingle, in recognition and appreciation of partnerships with the city of Cottage Grove, while serving the community of St. Paul Park for over 17 years combined as a city council member and mayor. Your commitment to the community and partnership are greatly appreciated.”

Bailey then presented the plaque on behalf of the council and citizens of Cottage Grove, with Dingle expressing appreciation to Cottage Grove Mayor Bailey and Commissioner Bigham.

Dingle’s shared that her husband had recently retired from 20 years as chair of the St. Paul Park Plan Commission,

“I think that as neighboring cities we do need to work together,” she said, listing the many different things in South Washington County requiring cooperation, from Beyond the Yellow Ribbon to Basic Needs Food Shelf.

Following the plaque presentation, Mayor Dingle called for public comment on the budget, then moving on to the consent agenda.
