District holds winter clothing drive for kids

Posted

As winter approaches and snow ultimately makes its long-term appearance, having warm winter clothing for students in SoWashCo becomes a top priority. To help keep students warm this winter, SoWashCo Community Education is partnering with SoWashCo CARES (Community Action Reaching Every Student) Education Foundation to help match students in need with winter coats, snow pants, boots, and gloves.

Community members and organizations can donate new and waterproof items by filling out the donation form, fulfilling an item from the Amazon wish list, or by contributing financially. Winter clothing donors will be paired with students in need. Donors will then be contacted with the requested winter clothing items for a specific child, and at which school to drop off the donation.

To sign up, visit the “Give Help” section at sowashcocares.org. For those representing a group that would prefer to be assigned a certain number of items, please contact Cheryl Jogger at cjogger@sowashco.org.

Donated winter clothing will be available for families in need of assistance at pop-up shops this fall or through each school’s social worker. Families will be notified when the clothing has arrived at their child’s school. Requests will be fulfilled to the best effort and availability; however, all requests are not guaranteed.

For more information on requesting winter clothing assistance, visit the “Get Help” section at sowashcocares.org. Paper copies of the request forms are available through each school’s social worker or principal. Completed paper forms can be returned to the school’s front office. For more information or a translated version of the form, please contact sowashcocares@gmail.com or call 651-425-6671.
