"Yes, it is," Park and Recreation Director Zac Dokter said when asked if the Dunes Reserve Park was open off Grey Cloud Trail South in Cottage Grove.
Open year-round from sunrise to sunset, the Dunes Reserve park off Mooer's Lake is a 19.91-acre nature spot with both paved and unpaved trails where local residents can experience life along the Mississippi in natural context, while being mindful not to trespass on lands to the north, being private property.
As such, access to the Dunes Reserve Park can be gained via a road easement from the old golf course entrance on Grey Cloud Trail South to the riverside parking lot. Dokter shared more on how people can enjoy the riverside views.
"They just show up at the entry and there are some signs down the road," he said of the old gated road on Grey Cloud Trail leading out to the former clubhouse.
With plenty to explore along the river so long as the boundary to the north is respected, the Dunes Reserve Park is a new way to enjoy the outdoors in Cottage Grove, a possible boat launch still awaiting a vote this coming year.
