It’s back to the drawing board, said Park coach Stephanie Tolkinen after the Wolfpack absorbed their worst loss of the season Tuesday.
Old nemesis East Ridge swooped into Cottage Grove and put a 53-34 hurt on the Wolfpack, stopping Park’s five-game winning streak emphatically.
“Hit the reset button,” said Tolkinen. “We had nine days off, I mean nine days without a game. We practiced, we practiced hard. The kids are focused They understand coming into the game. I just think that practicing and talking about it versus being into it, getting into the game – two different things.
“And their defense, they (the Raptors) were very prepared for us,” Tolkinen added. “And we just didn’t get on the same page tonight. Justine got two fouls and I took a chance and sat her on the bench and probably should have let her play a little bit more in the first half but hindsight always 20/20 what you can do.”
Park was never in this one. East Ridge jumped out to a 12-0 lead before Park scored and led 31-11 at the half. The second half was almost dead even but by then the damage had been done.
Park played without starting guard Elsa Olson and leading scorer Justine Jameson rode the bench for several minutes in the first half after picking up two fouls very early in the game. But the reality was the Wolfpack just weren’t ready for the league-leading East Ridge. The Raptors dominated at both ends of the court, disrupting Park’s offense while working the ball in for good shots at the other end of the court.
It was Park’s seventh straight setback at the hands of the Raptors.
Park slipped to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in the Suburban East Conference. East Ridge improved its record to 10-5 on the season and remained tied atop the SEC leaderboard at 7-2.
None of Park’s players scored in double figures Tuesday. Jameson had eight points to lead the Wolfpack. Sydnee Nelson and Emma Ambroz added seven each.
