Experienced Park golfers eager to hit the links

Park opens the 2024 high school golf season with experience and numbers.

The Wolfpack lost just one senior off last year’s team and welcomes back a talented junior class. Some 49 players are out for the team.

“We lost just one senior, our No. 4 golfer, and we have a really strong junior class,” said coach Tim Maluski who begins his first season as head coach of the Wolfpack. “And we have some good seventh, eighth and ninth grade golfers coming up.”

Park’s top three golfers from a year ago all return and were either all conference or honorable mention all-conference. Those three are juniors Tyler Bonin, Charlie Looker and Michael Destasio. The top three should all shoot somewhere in the seventies.

“They grind pretty hard,” said Maluski. “They live and breathe it.”

Senior Adam Freiman is another Park golfer who should do well this season,” Maluski said.

Park players have been hitting the links since the weather warmed up to determine who will be on the varsity.

“We have a lot of kids that are pretty decent,” the Park coach added. “But then it’s tough finding the time for them to work on their short games. We’re excited to get started.”

Park plays at Stillwater Monday, April 22, in its next match, then goes to Tanner Brook Golf Course on Tuesday, April 23.
