Flag football teams breezes to 4-0 start

Park easily went to 4-0 on the flag football season with a pair of decisive home wins Sunday over visiting East Ridge and Woodbury.

The Wolfpack defeated East Ridge 39-14 in the first game then took care of the Woodbury Royals 46-26 in the nightcap.

In four games so far this season, Park is outscoring opponents by an average score of 40-21. Moving the ball and scoring points is coming easily to the Wolfpack.

“Things are looking good right now if we keep it up,” said Park head coach Scott Leonard.

Park senior quarterback Alayna Adamez connected early and often with receivers Maleah McMorrow, Graycie Smith, Morgan Brinkman and Marlina Patrick, while the Wolfpack starting defense led by Olivia Czarnota and Alliyah Jarmon gave up very little to either the Raptors or the Royals.

“I’d say it’s a good standpoint of where we are,” said Czarnota. “I think we looked good out there.”

Players think the Park -- which won its division and section and finished 12-1 last season after losing to eventual champion Mahtomedi in the state semifinals -- could be heading for a similar result this year.

“I do think that we can be as good as last year,” said Czarnota. “I think that we have the talent still and we work well together.”

Sunday’s results would seem to bear that out.

Asked what the Wolfpack needs to do to keep improving this season, McMorrow said “Really just honing in on knowing our plays and doing the fundamentals that we’ve been taught since day one, catching the ball, pulling the flag, just anything that gets us the yards and the stops that we need.”

Park plays host Tartan (2-0) and North St. Paul (1-1) in its third doubleheader of the season Sunday, starting at 4 p.m.
