Boo! Halloween is almost here, and now is your chance to get tickets for flashlight tours coming up of the Warden’s House museum at 602 N. Main Street Stillwater, MN. Local legends say that the place is haunted…come and see for yourself!
Flashlight tours will be given after dark at the Warden’s House on Friday and Saturday October 17-18. Tours will begin at 6:00, 6:45, and 7:30 both nights. This hour-long tour of the House and grounds shares true tales of terror and tragedy from the original Minnesota State Prison. From the bloody battle between the Ojibwa and Dakota to apparitions of inmates past,
this tour highlights the hair-raising heritage of this historic site.
The Warden’s House, which was constructed in 1853 for the Warden of the Prison, had 13 different Warden’s that lived there over the course of 61 years. After 1914, when the prison moved to Bayport, the house had the Thomas Ross family, a Superintendent of the Prison, living there. The Washington County Historical Society purchased the House from the state of Minnesota in 1941 and opened it as the second house museum opened in Minnesota.
Tickets cost $35.00 and are available at wchsmn.org under events. Space is limited, so hurry. In addition, get them today if you dare! For more information, please contact heidi.heinze@wchsmn.org or call the Warden’s House at (651)439-5956.

Founded in 1934, the Washington County Historical Society is a donor-supported, nonprofit organization with more than 750 individual, family, and business members. WCHS is supported by individual gifts, memberships and earned income, and foundation grants.
