Frosty 40, an annual event for participants to embrace the winter season, is now open for registration. This challenge involves walking, running, cross-country skiing, or snowshoeing 40 miles in 40 days on the Carpenter Nature Center’s Minnesota and Wisconsin Campus trails.

Frosty 40 starts Jan. 1 and runs through March 19, 2024. Participants choose their own schedule and according to the CNC, “The 40 days do not need to be consecutive. You can keep track of your miles using our Frosty 40 Mileage Tracker 2024 or your system.”

The cost is $50 per adult or $25 per student (K-12) which includes a long-sleeve shirt or $60 per adult or $30 per student (K-12) which includes a stocking hat AND long-sleeve shirt. Fees cover merchandise, shipping, and a $30/$10 donation. The $30/$10 donation is tax-deductible. Participants can forego the Frosty 40 merchandise making the entire registration fee tax-deductible.

The CNC added, “Participants will also receive ‘Friends of CNC’ benefits for one year which includes FREE onsite snowshoe rentals during the winter season and discount pricing for programs throughout the year. All proceeds from this event support CNC’s environmental education programming and habitat conservation.”

To register for Frosty 40, go to https://carpenternaturecenter.org/plan-your-visit/annual-events/ where online and print and mail forms are available. For a timeline of events, questions or to sponsor this event go to carpenternaturecenter.org or email event coordinator Tess Zahradka at tess@carpenternaturecenter.org.

CNC trails are on 725 acres and open and maintained year-round. A seasonal snowshoe trail and the Self-Guided trail are paved and plowed during the winter season. CNC does not have cross-country ski trails, but you can check out other places in your area.

Frosty 40 started as a celebration for Carpenter Nature Center’s 40th Anniversary in 2021 and has since evolved into an annual event. Bring the family, enjoy with friends, or breathe in quietude alone while getting great exercise outdoors and supporting Carpenter Nature Center.
