Park dropped a tough 2-1 decision Saturday morning to host Hastings in a non-conference girls hockey match on Hockey Day Minnesota played at United Heroes League rink in Hastings.
After a scoreless first period, Hastings took a 1-0 lead to open the second, but Park answered back just 41 seconds later on a power play goal by Addie Corkish. Maleah McMorrow had the assist on the play.
But that was it for the Park offense and Hastings scored the game winner midway through the third period.
The Wolfpack have struggled mightily at scoring the past three weeks, putting in just five goals in seven games.
Park outshot Hastings 29-18 for the game.
Hailey Garcia and Alayna Adamez split time in the net for Park, with Garcia giving up two goals on 10 shots and Adamez allowing no goals on eight attempts.
It was the seventh straight loss for the Wolfpack, now 7-15 overall and 3-12 in the conference. Park plays Western Wisconsin at Somerset Ice Arena Thursday, then hosts South St. Paul Saturday in the final regular season game, starting at 2 p.m.
Cretin-Derham Hall 5, Park 0
A long season got a little bit longer for the host Park Wolfpack Tuesday as visiting Cretin-Derham Hall skated to a 5-0 win in Suburban East Conference girls' hockey at Cottage Grove Ice Arena.
It was Park’s sixth straight loss and third consecutive game in which the Wolfpack were held scoreless, falling to Stillwater 4-0, Woodbury 6-0 and then Cretin 5-0 in their last three SEC contests.
“At this time of the season we’ve just got to stick together,” said Park head coach Evan Ziegler. “We’re struggling to score goals right now and its showing. And we have chances but we’re not finishing them. And we’re not making breaks for ourselves. Another team is and it puts you in a tough situation and especially when you go down early in a game, playing from behind, makes it tough.
“We played a great second period,” Ziegler continued. “Just a great second period. We outshot them but we’re still growing, we’re still learning and we’ve got to figure it out on how to play three solid periods. And that’s what we’ve got to do.”
Cretin led 3-0 after one period then added two more goals in the third.
Both teams had 25 shots in goal, but none of Park’s found the back of the net.
Adamez awarded $5,000 scholarship
Park senior Alayna Adamez was presented a $5,000 Island Impact Hockey Day Minnesota Scholarship by the Prairie Island Indian Community and Treasure Island Resort & Casino during Hockey Day Minnesota celebrations Saturday.
A senior for the Park girls' varsity hockey team, Adamez is a five-year letter-winner in hockey and softball, as well as a standout in flag football. Off the ice, Adamez sports a 4.4 GPA and regularly volunteers at Feed My Starving Children and the Miracle League. Adamez is actively involved in the Park High School community as a student leader and a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council.
