After dropping the season opener to Bloomington Jefferson on Thursday, Park took on visiting Kasson-Mantorville Saturday afternoon, but the results were disappointing.
The two teams battled to a 0-0 tie, leaving Pak 0-1-1- on the young season.
In Thursday’s opener, Park made it exciting in the start and at the end with a late rally, but Bloomington Jefferson came through with a 3-2 win in the girls' soccer opener for both teams at Cottage Grove.
“We started really strong, scored in the first couple of minutes of the game, then things got a little too comfortable,” said co-head coach Stacy Paleen. “And then sometimes there’s the things you can’t control so they scored off a free kick and then a no call, so control the controllables.
“But I thought our team rallied really well” Paleen continued. “We had a lot of chances on net. We were probably in their half way more than they were in our half. So, we’re still working out some kinks but I’m really proud of the way the girls kept coming back and we had changes there until the last minute. That will be something we can take with us and carry into other games. It’s not over till the horn blows.”
Jefferson led 2-1 at the break, went up 3-1 in the second half. Park closed to within a goal but could come no closer.
Senior Lila Krumrie and junior Kylee Nickle each scored for the Wolfpack. Gabby Faletti had an assist.
Park hosts Minneapolis Washburn (1-1) Wednesday, then plays at Apple Valley (0-2) on Tuesday.
