Girls soccer travels to #3 Eagan for sections

Thursday, October 8th, the girls soccer team travelled to Roseville to finish out the regular season schedule. It was a game that featured a lot of great back and forth play, a great battle. Coach Stacy Paleen gave us the scoring summary, “Their first goal the ball took a wicked bounce and ended up going right over our keeper, our goal was an excellent cross by sophomore Kadyn Ellevold with a perfect finish by freshman Emma Taschner [which was] her first varsity goal. Their second goal was a defensive breakdown on our part. We battled to the end and had a last second chance to score that was cleared off the line. Tough loss because we played pretty well.”

When asked about the way the season played out, Coach Paleen had this to say. “The season was interesting… Not having any nonconference games to get our line-up solidified hurt a little. However, we feel pretty healthy going into Sections, where in other years we [have felt] banged up.” “We had some really good conference games,” Paleen continued. The girls line-up is relatively young. “We only play five seniors regularly and have eight [freshmen or sophomores] who regularly play.” The surprise of the season has been Senior Shauna Miller, explained Paleen, “She played in our program as a freshman and sophomore. She did not come out junior year to focus on hockey. She decided to play again this year and we needed a goalkeeper so she stepped up having not played it since middle school. Shauna has kept us in many games and her no nonsense leadership has been invaluable.”

Park finished sixth in the regular season standings and received the sixth seed in the Class 3AA section. 3AA is a tough section because Park is the only Suburban East team in it. Hastings is the only Metro East team and everyone else is from South Suburban. The Wolfpack will travel to the three seed, Eagan on Wednesday Night, the 14th. “We are excited to see how we match up with them on their new turf which is rumored to be extremely wide. We are looking to possess the ball up the flanks, cross and score!” Coach Paleen stated.
