Girls tennis team falls to Cretin 4-3

Park dropped a hard-fought match to visiting Cretin-Derham Hall in girls tennis Thursday, losing 4-3.

Park’s Alivia Luu won 7-6, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and Nada Hafiz won 6-4, 6-4 at fourth singles.

In doubles, Park’s top team of Bailey Ledman and Chloe Newhouse won in three, 6-1, 1-6 and 6-2, but the rest of the Park doubles lineup dropped matches.

“Very pleased,” said head coach Tony Townsend when asked how the team was progressing this season. “I think we’ve kind of met our goal where we’re getting experience every single match and we’re making our goal of continuous improvement. And our girls are finding a way to win those close matches so that belief is starting to set in.

Asked who was playing well for the Wolfpack, Townsend said:

“We have several. We have Alaina Post; I think she’s had two losses on the season. So Alaina Post is really stepping up. She’s playing two singles. Alivia Luu playing that top position at No. 1 and she just keeps getting better every single match. Our No. 1 doubles, Chloe Newhouse has been a staple at that one doubles spot and she’s been a great leader just in that doubles lineup.”

Earlier in the week, Park dropped a 7-0 decision at Mounds View.

As the regular season draws rapidly to a close, Park hosts Forest Lake Thursday, starting at 4 p.m., then has two more dual matches.
