The Grey Cloud Town Board met Wednesday, March 11 for the monthly meeting in the Grey Cloud Town Hall.
Starting with the treasurer’s report, it was shared that beginning balance in checking for February was $281,949, with $13,000 in expenses and $10,000 in revenue bringing the current balance to $279,046. Together with $252,000 in the UBS asset accounts this brought total township assets to $530,815.
The town board has been saving for road work, with road projects planned for this year including a small portion of 105th Street and Grey Cloud Island Drive.
“Probably in the fall,” Chairman Phil Dupre said.
Also covered March 11 was the updating of township ordinances, with ordinances 14 and 20 retired in favor of ordinance 63.2, replacing the older ordinances.
Supervisor Richard Polta explained more.
“Really all this is doing is deleting two ordinances,” he said.
Also on the night’s agenda for Grey Cloud was an appearance by Mike Murphy of Amrize, who spoke on a request for longer operating hours, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays.
“Mike Murphy with Amrize,” he said. “So we’re here to do our annual ask for extended hours at the Larson Quarry. We’d like to match exactly like last year, so extending the hours from seven to seven to go from 6 a.m. to 10 .am. Monday through Friday and then 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays. This would only impact excavation, crushing, screening, washing, and stockpiling.” Murphy expressed a desire to get started by April 1, utilizing the barge transport system to its optimal seasonal capacity.
Ordinance 49.5 currently governs mining operations, allowing mining operations from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The board opened to allow Saturdays last year, provided it was notified first.
After some discussion it was agreed that Amrize could do extended hours, with motion by Polta seconded by Supervisor Jake Jones.
Also touched on at the March town Board meeting was DNR burn permits, with Polta explaining more.
“I don’t know if people are looking but just people have asked questions about burning in Grey Cloud, and I ran into this, the have no burning permit regulations in Grey Cloud, so we have just been burning. I’ve been burning. All of a sudden a sheriff shows up. Well, there is a requirement by the DNR, you go to the DNR website, right on the front page, it has their request for a burning permit. So we are under that so if you want to be legal, they have a form you fill out to get a burning permit. I don’t think very long. I think it’s relatively fast. I didn’t get one, that’s why they were down there. So just so people now.”
Closing out the Grey Cloud update, Plan Commission is April 6 at 6:30 p.m., with the next town board meeting on Wednesday, April 8 at 7:00 p.m.
The public is welcome to attend.
