What’s free, family- friendly, and coming to Highlands Park this summer?

Movies in the Park CG, that’s what. Organized by Monique Garza of buywithmo. com and supported by several other area businesses as well, Movies in the Park CG will see the big screen come to Highlands Park for three free movie showings: one on June 22 with a story plot involving bossy babies, another involving an enchanted house set for July 20, and a third on August 24 which is the modern CGI sequel to one from almost three decades back involving Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny.

The three movies are all rated as PG, for ‘Parental Guidance.’ So just what is Movies in the Park CG, on a more descriptive level?

“It’s a collaboration of mostly Cottage Grove businesses,” Garza said of the event being offered for the first time this summer at 6975 Isden Avenue South. “It’s at Highlands Park at 7:30 p.m.”

Reportedly working on securing a 20-foot screen for the three showings through Starlight Cinema, Garza said in addition that South Suburban rental had donated a bounce house, MOVIES

local food trucks would be present and that Culver’s would be there with ice cream, donating half their sales back into the event.

Thrivent Financial, meanwhile, will be selling donuts, with the proceeds to go to the Friends In Need Food Shelf.

Speaking of Friends in Need, moviegoers to the free movie nights are asked to please bring a toiletry item for the food shelf.

In the meantime, Movies in the Park CG will also have face painting as well as a table for canvas painting, while Garza was also working to try and get several other opportunities rolling, including potential animal displays with a local nature center and karate demonstrations. The Lions Club had also made a donation to the event, she said, and she was also trying to get the Skoolie (a mobile classroom for community education) involved as well.
